Tonbi ep.1

Tonbi (2013) is a drama that is based on the same novel of Tonbi (2012, 2 part tanpatsu drama). The drama is not a sequel of the tanpatsu and does not share the same actors.

Synopsis (From DramaWiki) Do not read if you don't want to know spoilers:

The drama is based on the best-selling same-titled novel by Shigematsu Kiyoshi. It tells the story of how a widower brought up his only son, after the death of his beloved wife. Ichikawa Yasuo, or Yasu as he is known, is a baka, with no paper qualifications to his name. However, like all normal parents, he dotes on his only son, Akira. Having grown up without his parents around, Yasu himself knows next to nothing of what parenting is about. With his wife, Misako, by his side, he had spent many happy days together with his little family.
However, when Akira was 3 years old, Misako passed away suddenly from an accident. Heart-broken, and filled with regrets, Yasu pulled himself together, in order to care for his little son. Together with the help of his friends, Yasu overcame it all, and Akira grew up to be a bright and successful young man.
"With nothing but love for his son... that's all there is"

My impressions

Tonbi is a slice of life/ family drama. It depicts the life and raising of Akira.

It is a pretty simple story. You can really feel the feelings of the characters. I felt them as if I was living them. In happy moments, you can feel overwhelmed with joy, but in bad moments, you can cry and feel sadness. It is a very beautiful and touching slice of life drama. Tonbi got really got ratings, with an average of 15.5%.

However, the pace is really slow. I also really wonder what will happen in the other 9 episodes. What I mean by that is I can't really imagine what could happen, not because I am curious about what will happen. The first episode by itself could be a movie. Basically, so much happened in the first episode, I cannot really picture what could happen next.

When I feel like watching a slow, basic slice of life drama, I will choose Tonbi.
